Your Scout Handbook is a good source for additional information on what to pack.
Before buying expensive items like sleeping bags, boots and backpacks, we strongly suggest you use suitable family gear
you may already own or borrow for the first few trips. This lets you see what is needed, what others use, research purchases
and take advantage of sales. Also if your scout is new to the troop he may decide after a season that this camping out just
isn't for him and leave the troop. Troop 263's leaders have camped for years, and can suggest money-saving substitutes,
or recommend good quality equipment that will survive the rigors of Scout camping. Scouts also tend to grow quickly and can
find that a backpack or boots don't fit after a year. There is Troop Equipment such as tents, tarps, Sleeping pads, etc.
is available to borrow from the troop. Contact your Patrol Leader so he can request items from the Quartermaster at
least 1 - 2 weeks before a camp out. Keep in mind there is only a limited supply of extra equipment.
Don't have the camping equipment you need then check this store out - you can Rent the equipement you will need and give
it a try before you invest in a purchase of the equipment.
REI is a sporting goods store that has quality sports supplies. You can purchase items on-line or
go to Reading, MA (the nearest store to our town). I think they are about one of the best around and highly recommend
them for all your camping and sports needs. They will fit things like packs to the size of your body.
You can also rent equipment from them.
So its like a try it out before you buy it
